JORDAN PEELE BECOMES THE 1ST EVER BLACK DIRECTOR WITH A $100 MILLION FEATURE FILM DEBUT. 💸💰
Every now and then, a modestly budgeted horror film comes along, and manages to capture the collective imagination of moviegoers. A good recent example of this phenomenon is 2013’s The Conjuring which hauled in over $300 million (R4 billion) on a budget of $20 million (R262 million), and spawned a franchise that will soon include no less than 5 films. Success stories like these emphasize why horror never entirely falls out of favor with Hollywood, as it often doesn’t take much investment to earn a huge return.
Jordan Peele’s new movie Get Out is slated to become the fastest debut feature film title to cross the $100 million mark (R1, 3 billion), hitting the target in 16 days, Beating out the likes of Split which took 19 days, Paranormal Activity 3 with 23 days and Paranormal Activity needing 50 days to break the $100 million mark.
