The world Reacts To The New Top Gear Now Called
“If we had to guess about the number of viewers we are going to get on Sunday night, you have got to say you would be disappointed if it was under 5 million. Five million-plus would be great, after that it doesn’t matter,”- These are the words that new “Clarkson” Chris Evans said before the debut of the new Extra Gear this past Sunday. And disappointment indeed it was as the 1st show brought in its lowest viewership in the past decade.
All though it was the most watched show in the 20:00 segment it managed to draw in an audience of 4.4 million with a peak of 4.7 million. While the last season of the original show with Clarkson, Hammond and May bowed out the game with a solid 6.8 million views. It was always going to be a massive challenge to change the original $73 million (R1, 151, 224, 600.00) a year brand amid the circumstances that Jeremy put the BBC after punching one of the shows producers last year. However Based on the twitter reactions both during and after show, it seems like the BBC’s challenge to get top gear back to its phenomenal status just got that much Harder.
