RIKY RICK IS THE “VISUALS GENIUS” SOUTH AFRICAN MUSIC HAS BEEN WAITING FOR
“Your video looks like a Go-pro//mina I only do art”
Riky Rick is the creative genius we have all been waiting for in mzanzi and his latest short movie “Exodus” is the final testament to his creative prowess.
I remember the exact day I first saw Riky Rick’s video for “Fok Julle Naaiers (Nafukwa)” on the channel O Friday night music show “Turn up” and I knew immediately that the aesthetics game in South Africa would never be the same again. The shots in the Nafukwa video alone breathed new life into the visuals world for South Africa.
Rappers in South Africa can claim not be influenced by Riky’s aesthetics but the streets know what’s up, Mr Makhado shoots the best rap videos in South Africa hands down no debate about it. Riky Rick might be the first rapper in South Africa who has been able to drop hit radio records while still being able to maintain a high caliber of visuals for all his videos from purely just an artistic perspective.
He decided to close off the “Family Values” run by shooting an epic short movie called “Exodus” which was directed by the genius that is Kylie Lewis. Riky was quoted saying that the movie was a celebration of the close relationship that exists between music, art and film and after watching the short movie back to back we cant help but agree. Check out the featured video to watch “Exodus” and see why we think Boss Zonke is the ultimate creative in the South African music game.
